Mark and his fellow students are preparing to strike, which incites a swift response from local police. One officer is fatally shot and Mark, who possesses a gun, flees the scene, heading out of town towards Hawthorne Municipal Airport, where he steals a plane and flies into the desert. His journey intersects with Daria, who is en route to a rendezvous with her real estate boss, Lee Allen. She agrees to give Mark a lift as he continues his flight to freedom.
